Japan has no national religion, and freedom of faith is guaranteed.
As many temples and shrines are seen, “Shinto” and “Buddhism” are religious forms that have delved into Japanese culture. However, Shinto has no founder, nor does it have any scriptures. This makes it slightly different from other religions. The same can be said for Buddhism, that in Japan has a large number of people who do not actually consider themselves religious.
Therefore, we are not so familiar with religious customs. In modern society, we can communicate with people from all over the world. For this, we cannot get by doing something and then saying: “Well, I don’t know why I am doing this”- especially if this is something connected to religion. However, it’s not rare to find people like this nowadays. Is that really bad, though? We would say that, in fact, Japan is very tolerant of other religions and cultures. If you have any uncomfortable feelings about that, please make your voice be heard.
