Japan has one of the best water supply facilities in the world. Tap water in Japan is basically drinkable directly without any kind of pre-treatment. You don’t need to boil or sterilize anything. It’s amazing to be able to drink tap water straight from the tap, isn’t it? Everyone may have their own likes and dislikes it, but it’s decently delicious. At least, it is not harmful to your health. Well, there are exceptions, of course. For example, toilet water in public/commercial buildings and vehicles is basically not for drinking. There are usually warning signs for such cases. So you don’t have to worry about them.

Well, even know that, there are many people who think that it will be a bit uncomfortable to drink water from a faucet at room temperature without boiling. There are many Japanese people who think that way. It is quite luxury, don’t you think so? Good or bad, we think that it’s a real blessing to have such an environment where tap water is safe.

On a side note… In some areas in Japan, these tap water are sold in plastic bottles as a product. They are distributed in the market under the brand name of “The Tap Water from ○○”. (○○ is the name of each area!) We have very mixed feelings, on the other hand, we could be super curious…
