When visiting a place other than a big city, you’re always required to do a bit of added transportation after riding the Shinkansen or plane to the main terminals. Here, we’d like to discuss these possible methods of transportation for those transfers.

One of means of transportation we recommend is the “route bus”. Japan is said to have a very high road maintenance rate. Even roads in the deep mountainous area of the region are well paved. In the case of major cities in Japan, the train (conventional line) network is quite well developed, but that’s not to say trains are the best way of travel in all parts of the city. In order to make a train line, you’d have to lay tracks, which would interrupt the smooth roads. Also, making subways would require digging into the ground, which once again disrupts paved highways. In that respect, route buses are best, as they can use the paved road already there. Moreover, they are able to run well even on narrow roads. They also always operate according to the timetable, never late… That’s pretty handy, isn’t it? That is why it is a very convenient means of transportation if you can utilize it successfully.

By the way, this is a break down of fare prices… One method of fare calculation is charging for the ridden distance, another is simply a set price for riding, no matter your destination. Basically, the former pays when getting off and the latter pays when getting on.

If you’re not sure how to get to your destination, ask the driver. They will help you very politely.
